My typical day

Kathy from the Junk Drawer recently posted about her typical blogging day. I was exhausted just from reading about it:

http://www.junkdrawerblog.com/2008/10/my-typical-blogging-day.html

I swear, she must be Super Woman.

Anyway, I decided to look at my day, and try to figure out why I don't seem to get much done.

Here's my actual Monday to Friday schedule, and note on weekends, I do take it a little more easy.

7:00 a.m. Wake up. Put on Mike and Mike on ESPN, and switch back and forth with the news.

7:02 - 7:23 Scratch things, rub things, shift things as needed.

7:23-7:30 Breakfast (usually just some yogurt and maybe a piece of toast if the Crotchety Old Lady is on schedule.)

7:30 - 8:00 Think about going to the bathroom

8:00 - 8:30 Go to the bathroom, wash things that were previously scratched, rubbed, or shifted. Do other bathroomly things.

8:30-9:00 Watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Don't judge me.)

9:00 - 9:30 Watch Step by Step (Donchoo go rolling your eyes. It's not nice.)

9:30 - 10:00 Check emails. Delete most of them.

10:00 -11:00 Cookie and juice break. Have oatmeal cookie (I need the fiber) and juice.

11:00-12:00 Stare at my blog. Answer both comments. Visit Ned the toothpick.com and send cryptic messages to Rubba.

12:00-12:15 Lunch. Usually a peanut butter and tomato sandwich on whole grain (fiber, fiber, fiber) and some fruit.

12:15 to 2:00 p.m. Power nap

2:00 -2:15 Scratch, rub, and shift as needed.

2:15 - 4:00 Read blogs, drop entrecards

4:00-5:00 Watch Monk reruns

5:00 -6:00 Read some more blogs.

6:00 -6:30 Welcome Crotchety Old Lady home from her day at the office. Remind her how hard I've been working and suggest she get dinner cooking because I'm hungry.

6:30-7:00 Work really hard, while continuing to encourage her to finish making dinner as it's getting late and I want to eat soon.

7:00 -7:30 Eat dinner while watching the Simpsons. I'm a multi-tasker.

7:30 - 8:00 Poke around the internet, and drop entrecards.

8:00-11:00 Watch TV to relax. Think about tonight's post

11:00 -11:45 Watch the Daily Show, or something on TBS, or Cartoon Network.

11:45 -12:02 a.m. Write post for tomorrow, while watching Colbert or Letterman. Multi-tasking again.

12:02 -2:00 a.m. Network. This means I go to the live chat at Humorbloggers and discuss such important blogging topics as the stupid Cubs, goat tacos, and tee shirt slogans.

It's a pretty full day. I'm willing to take suggestions as to how I could be more efficient, because it is a long day and I don't seem to get much accomplished. Maybe there is something I could do better, or shift around.

And, if you haven't already, please

  1. Wow! You need to slow down!

(And what about these people who have five friggin' blogs? It's all I can do to keep up with one!)

  3. That was priceless...
I now have read Kathy's and your typical day and can say that I fall somewhere in between the two. Perhaps with a bit more scratching and shifting things around.

    peace,

  4. Are you as bummed-out about Caroline Rhea becoming such a "HUGE" star the last year or so as I am???

  5. Yep I saw that over there. It exhausted me. So I am not even gonna try to follow it again here. Sigh.

  6. With all the fibre you're ingesting I'm surprised you don't need to fit in more bathroom time. LOVED this post - wicked!

  7. That sounds like a positively lovely day. Perhaps if you cut out one of the shift/scratch sessions you would have more time for yelling at cars?

If you don't stop eating those tomatoes (which are full of arsenic), all those things you like to shift, scratch, or rub will soon fall off. :-P

I should do a post like this... 'cept it'd be really dull. lol

  9. You're going to give yourself a heart attack at that pace! (Or a stomach ache from lunch-- peanut butter and tomato, Crotchety? Fer pete's sake, my friend... What are ya doing to yourself...)

  10. @ Paul: Fortunately, I use quantity, not quality.

@ Chica: You should. But I have the feeling with your kids, you actually do a lot.

@ Mike: The scratching and shifting takes time when done right.

@ Fishhawk: I'm a big fan of hers no matter what.

@ Lauren: She is a whirlwind.

@ Bill: I'm puzzled by it myself.

@ Brazen: That's become mostly a weekend activity because I'm just so busy with my daily schedule.

@ Shadow: I realize not everyone could keep up with my hectic pace.

@ Jenn: Peanut butter and tomato sandwiches will be my gift to the culinary world. I'm ahead of my time.

    "Step By Step"?

  15. Work smarter not harder - crotchety. You can still fit in all the scratching , shifting, internet surfing etc that you currently do in a day - possibly even more

Hire a few illegal immigrants to lighten your workload - if it's good enough for walmart...

  17. @ Gumby: PB&T why not? Fruit and PB go together so well, and tomato is a fruit.

    @ Rubba: Got it, PW

@ Petra: Yeah, I'm putting in a lot of time. I need a break

@ Patricia: Thanks. I'll be by later.

@ Dave: I was thinking of outsourcing, also.

I had to re-read the begining, it came out to me as Katy from the Drunk Drawer.. shows where my head is!

  23. @ Susie: Made me go back and look. I type these up late at night, and at times I'm in the Drunk Drawer. :)

  24. crotchety I'm not sure how you could possibly be more efficient, you already function with a minimum amount of time scratching and shifting things. I'm just glad you don't write your posts during the Daily Show. The Cobert Report is waaaay more conducive to clear and rational thinking. :)

Other than the Mike and Mike thing, you and I share the same enthusiasm for living life in the fast lane.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ Chat: I know. I'm the model of efficiency. And Colbert is the best.

@ Dana: Yup. We're both living la vida loca.

"Sabrina the Teenage Witch?" Really? Wow...

Not judging, now. That show just drives me up the wall.

As does "Step by Step," come to think of it.

  28. @ The Hawg: My tastes are uhhmmm, rather eclectic.

  30. I'm intrigued by your Cartoon Network activity. How come you didn't mention what you watch on that channel? I mean is it really more embarrassing than Step by Step??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Full day, busy busy, busy. I'm amazed the quality of your blog remains so high and, well.....crotchety.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ Offended: Rubba loves the attention. Mention him all you want.

@ Kirsten: Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Courage. I also like to watch Nick for Spongebob Squarepants

@ Humor: I know. Fortunately, I am able to write my blog in 10 minutes or less. I'd hate to admit I put more time than that in it.

  33. Seems to me your old woman is not doing enough to help you. Typical ungrateful lass. She needs to be on hand more for your needs I reckon.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, I read you both(kathy) and I do not see how you get anything else done. My but you are busy. You do seem to scratch your naughty parts a lot. You ain't got nothing do you?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @ Adullamite: I keep telling her that. She keeps mentioning something aout her "life."

@ Etta: No, just general itchiness.

Your energy astounds me. I can't do all that in the average week.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So what you're saying, Crotchety, is that I could do away with pretty much all of my blogging duties and just keep the scratchin' and shifting things and I'll still do OK? Cuz I'd sure like to know how I can do as well as you without killing myself. Naps and having someone cook for me sounds a whole lot easier. Damn you!

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ Chris: Yeah, I'm a ball of energy

@ Kathy: LOL. It is much more difficult than it looks.
