What's for lunch at Casa Crotchety?

I felt great yesterday when I read the Jannaverse and noted that to celebrate National Peanut Butter Day, she listed several weird things folks put on their peanut butter sandwich besides the standard jelly.
Sure, there were some weird things like PB & mustard, but I was happy to see my personal favorite, peanut butter and tomato, was listed. This is absolutely my favorite sandwich ever. At times, I've gone several weeks straight eating it for lunch every day. Occasionally, I'll kick it up a notch and add jalapeno peppers to it, along with the tomato.

Apparently, this is considered a slightly unusual thing, so I got to wondering if anyone thought any of my other food combinations were uncommon.

More than once, it has been pointed out that the way I eat French Toast is bordering on disgusting. I've seen plenty of others top theirs with butter and sugar or syrup. I use ketchup. It makes perfect sense, as it is eggs and toast (aka a gussied up egg sandwich,) and what goes on an egg sandwich but ketchup? Very few see it my way.

Thinking about it, I put ketchup on nearly everything. I don't eat a lot of animal parts, but those I do eat usually get covered in the 57 Varieties stuff. Beef? Of course. Chicken? Who doesn't? Fish? Only way I can eat it. Pork? What else goes on sausage with pepper and onions or even a ham sandwich? Is it even possible to eat peas, mushrooms, or potatoes without ketchup? I'll never risk it.

What odd foods do you eat?

I had an appetite before I came in here, thanks for taking that away. In fact it's too late for me to be eating anyways. But gee you do have an odd pallet!

I cannot say that I have anything to eat that would be considered odd.. how sad.

I like to put peanut butter on my waffles, but that is not really odd. When I was in Germany, I got hooked on escargot. Yup, snails. I like them with a nice garlic-butter sauce and melted cheese over the top.

I thought only Elvis had weird tastes? :) There is hope for my cooking after all!

I've been known to put black pepper on my vanilla ice cream. It sounds weird, but it only enhances the flavor of the vanilla (unless, you get carried away with the pepper, that is).

I dip my cookies in my iced tea

I'm kind of a ketchup addict too. Those pb sandwiches also go great with pepper jelly! That sweet-hot on the pb is fantastic. Goes with milk or beer too. Hell, ketchup may even be an option.

My dad used to eat Fritos and buttermilk.

I like PB and banana and PB and apples.

Hubby drinks iced tea for breakfast; even in the winter.

We like spicy salsa with almost anything!

Wow, watching you eat must be quite fun. All the ketchup and all. Ewwwwww. Even on French toast? Bwahahahahahah. Sorry, this is just disgusting.

Have a terrific day. :)

I can only eat ketchup on burgers and french fries. Not on any other kind of potato or I will vomit.

And ketchup on eggs? OMG.

I have to admit, I am incredibly boring when it comes to food. I don't eat anything weird, not that I can think of off the top of my head.

FOOD? Well i can eat PB every single day....in my oatmeal melted in!! Well come to think of it i don't eat anything odd. Unless you consider making a smoothie with spinach leaves odd, than yes i eat odd!!!

HAPPY SUNDAY OLD MAN!!!

You do know that there is a HUGE peanut butter recall in effect now?
Stick to french toast for awhile.

I think PB&T sounds pretty sick (then again, I'm allergic to peanuts and hate tomatoes), but I also enjoy ketchup on French toast... with a little bit of pancake syrup (as in very little - about 2 drops to mix with the ketchup). Delicious.

I grew up thinking Ketchup was Tomato Sauce.

Spaghetti, ketchup and butter....yum.

Old man, you so crazy!!! I've never ever heard of eating a PB sandwich with tomato. And ketchup on french toast? OMG, that's truly disgusting. Okay, now for my weird food combos (time for you to get grossed out). I like pimento cheese sandwiches on raisin bread with bread & butter pickles. YUM! This isn't a weird food combo but I do love raw oysters (but only with cocktail sauce and eating on a cracker) as well as escargot (snails). YUMMY!

@ Chica: I saved you from indigestion. You're welcome.

@ Tahtimbo: PB on waffles sounds pretty good. Escargot--not for me.

@ Adullamite: Hope springs eternal

@ Matt: That makes sense, actually.

@ Dizz: I guess that makes sense. Cookies dipped in hot tea or coffee is normal

@ I was with you on the pizza until the butter

@ Don: They are great with pepper jelly. Peanut Butter and Company makes a spicy PB that is really good, too.

@ Reforming: Salsa goes with almost anything.
:)
Did you ever eat it on pasta?

@ Sandee: I go through a lot of ketchup. Buy the big bottles 2 at a time. It is nature's perfect food.

@ Creative: I can't eat eggs without a lot of ketchup.

@ Michelle: I'd drink that. I have gone months eating PB every single day.

@ MA: I'm using my emergency rations of PB. I keep a few weeks supply on hand at all times.

@ Shadow: You have to try it. But make sure the tomatoes are ripe and in season. They are sweet and tart--perfect to go with PB

@ Swirl: Spaghetti, ketchup, and butter? My Italian great grandma is spinning in her grave just by my typing that.

@ Pimento cheese with bread and butter pickles on raisin bread sounds great. Sweet, spicy, and sour all on one sandwich. Works for me.

OOOPs. That should be @ Laura.

As I child, my favorite after school snack was saltine crackers spread with mayo and ketchup (catsup?). OK, well, my mom didn't bake cookies! Peanut butter and fried bologna (baloney?) is one of my favorites.

I am notorious in my family for putting raisins in everything I cook. I think raisins make almost anything better!

Hmmmm...I do liver sausage sandwichs with sweet pickles, but I don't think it all that weird in comparison to these. Yuck.

Stunatra said...

Ketchup on French toast? No thanks.

I don't eat ketchup/catsup on many things at all. Not on eggs, not on sandwiches (except hot dogs sometimes) but I grew up eating ketchup on collard greens, mustard greens, etc.

Da Old Man said...

@ Judy: On the same sandwich? Fried baloney and onions is good (with ketchup)

@ Patricia: I've had raisins in stuffing, but that's about the only thing I could think to add them to.

@ Lin: That doesn't sound bad at all

@ Stunatra: You don't know what you're missing

@ Sherry: We never had a lot of greens, but ketchup would probably help

I love peanut butter and bacon sandwiches.

Have a kid who eats peanut butter on her french toast which drives me nuts. That's just as disgusting as ketchup on french toast.

Probably the weirdest thing I eat is I'll put a big ol' piece of chocolate cake on the same plate I had beef and gravy on. Use teh cake to sop up the last of the gravy. I'm told that's very weird.

We always had peanut butter and butter sandwiches. We're redundant people.

I LOVE ketchup!! After all, it's a vegetable, isn't it?!?!

My mother wouldn't allow me to put ketchup on my eggs when I was a kid. She said it was vulgar.

So now, even though I am 54 years old, I absolutely bathe my eggs in ketchup. In my head I'm saying "Look Ma! Look! I'm smothering my eggs in ketchup and there's nothing you can do about it!! Nyaahh haah haah!!!"

That will fix HER!!

Glad I could inspire you. :)

I only like ketchup on french fries, burgers, and hot dogs.

If it's McDonald's ketchup, then I have a whole TON of it on my fries. I hope to someday be embalmed in McDonald's ketchup. That stuff is amazing.

The only freaky food combination I can think of that I like is macaroni drenched in tabasco sauce and coated with parmesan cheese.
Very good.

Wait... another neat combination I learned was to chew candy corn at the same time as dry-roasted peanuts.
It ends up tasting just like one of those nougat-nut-roll things.
