My local university has the Scarlet Knights, and my university was the Cougars. So far, so good. A group of chivalrous men of the realm, and a vicious jungle cat.
But other schools are not so lucky.
Take the University of California (Santa Cruz) home of
Banana Slugs
Evergreen State College, the home of the Geoducks
Mascot
Yes, they have a sports team named after a clam that looks like it starred in a porn movie. And you thought clown porn was disgusting.
And what must be the worst of all is the The Rhode Island School of Design Nads.
I swear I'm not making this up. You will have to google the picture of the team mascot, "Scrotie," yourself because this blog is rated PG. You are welcome to become an athletic supporter and cheer them on as the student body yells "GO NADS."
They have really strange mascots at:

And please vote for me while you are there. Thanks.

You really are obsessed with bananas. Well they are filled with fiber!
Ah, we've got some great mascots here in the beautiful South.
Of course, the finest of them all is the Arkansas Razorbacks (got a law degree there), followed closely by the Hendrix College Warriors (got my bachelor's in political science there). The Hendrix one is great because they changed the mascot from an Indian (excuse me, Native American) to a guy who looks like Mel Gibson in Bravehart.
Ah, but that's not all. Batesville's Lyon College Scots are represented by a mascot called Angus McFierce, and you've got to love the irony of the University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils. Why on earth would you choose the boll weevil as a mascot when you're college is in the middle of cotton country?
And then, of course, you've got Mississippi's Delta State Fighting Okra. Yeah, there's nothing more fierce than combative okra, is there?
They need a bearded clam mascot....
haha, the banana slugs. Over here we have the Yakima Yaks. The Yaks! haha. I laugh everytime.
haha Scrotie! Will we soon also see the rise of the Fighting Vajayjay? oh wait, that's the ladies on The View, my bad.
A CLAM? A banana slug? Wow, were all the other animals not available for auditions the day they had to choose? :)
I know a classmate of mine went to a Delaware school with a Fighting Chicken. That always gave me a good laugh.
@ Lauren: I like bananas. Banana slugs? Not so much.
@ The Hawg: Boll weevils at least have a bad attitude, I guess, but the okra? That's pretty awful.
@ Jamie: I'm surprised there isn't one.
@ The FLy: The Yaks. OK, that's difficult to say without snickering.
@ Chat: The Fighting Vajayjay. I'm just thinking about the mascot. LOL.
@ Jenn: Quite a few universities have chickens as their mascots. But they are really mean chickens. Though, I suppose, I wouldn't want a mascot that is better battered and fried.
Tulane University, home of the Green Wave.
I'm thinking that most of them were drinking pretty heavy when they thought up some of these names. Just saying. Have a great day. :)
@ Feefi: I couldn't believe how many were just named colors, too. One team is just The Garnet.
@ Sandy: Say it isn't so. College and heavy drinking? LOL
Our local team was named after a nut...THE BUCKEYES...YEAAAAA...OK, I've had my humor fix for the day; love your site!
Well, yep, banana slugs is just about the worst one I've heard too! I went to the University of Virginia and our mascot is the every-creepy "Cavalier." Sheesh. I've never liked it, but now, in comparison, it doesn't look so bad! LOL
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the nice comment!
May you NEVER be THAT bored again!!!
All of those are just wrong!
I think that is the funniest picture I have ever seen and I'm sure that poor clam mascot got his ass kicked in the parking lot after the games. Ditto for Scrotie.
@ Judy: Ohio State does have a sad mascot.
@ Parenting: Cavaliers are a step way up from banana slugs. Enjoyed your blog very much.
@ Dana: I hope so, too.
@ Nikki: Totally
@ Frogs: You know it. Poor Scrotie. :(
I didn't believe you, so I went ahead and Googled scrotie....
and...
wow.
He's... uh... He's definitely Scrotie.
I apologize for ever doubting you.
Yes, the answer almost same, as well as at me.
