Beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We are starting to get in the Holiday spirit here at Casa Crotchety. Not decorating or anything like that because, well, that takes effort. But we have been watching a lot of Christmas TV Shows.
It dawned on me that I have watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer every single year since it first aired. I need a life.

Speaking of all the nonsense floating around in my brain: do you know the name of the Little Drummer Boy? He had a first name. And not fair if you use the Google.

Anyway, while poking around youtube looking for a classic commercial or two I found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx2dCwugN5A

When I was a little Crotchety, I remember thinking that was the height of Christmas Festive Adornment for the house. Obviously, I didn't get out much.

But anyway, we have been blasting the all Christmas music station for a week, and spent Saturday watching Cartoon Network. I have reached the following conclusions:
1. Olive the Other Reindeer may be my new favorite movie
Photobucket

2. Ross Bagdasarian Sr. (aka Dave Seville) was a genius
3. Brenda Lee has some weird accent or speech impediment that borders on yodeling

After reading all the complaints about Christmas music, I wanted to make my own top 10 list of songs I could listen to every day (in no order):
1. Silver Bells 2. Christmas Don't be Late 3. Dominic the Donkey 4. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas 5. Christmas Wrapping 6. Father Christmas 7. Hippopotamus for Christmas 8. Jingle Bell Rock
9. Run Rudolph Run 10. The entire South Park Christmas Album. (so I cheated a bit. I absolutely love that album)

How could anyone get tired of those?

Erin?
Glass wax!
I want some.

Those are the classic christmas songs. I also love How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My Grands like the movie with Jim Carey better. I say there is nothing better than the old classics.

Excuse me, does anyone have a spare Kalashnikov?
I've just found a target!

I remember Glass Wax.....that and the itchy, fiberglass Angel Hair my mom carefully spun around each Christams tree light are at the top of my decorating memories.

My favorite Christmas song is What Child Is This....because it's set to the music of Greensleeves and, for some reason, I love that music.

Favorite movie....It's A good Life. Yeah, I know. It's a real oldie but it always brings tears to these eyes.

I forgot about Dominick the Donkey. Why don't they play that on the radio more?

Love the new header btw!

Aaron - Purrumpa - pum - pum!

I only know that because it was just on my Christmas Trivia for our party last weekend!

So I leave you with - hear goes Susie Snowflake!

I don't remember glass wax (and no I'm not too young). I must have blocked it out somehow or maybe Mom refused to put crap on the windows. ;-)

I like almost anything by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Good stuff!

OMG
I want glass wax. I'm with the group of everyone complaining about Christmas music... not a fan. But, I always loved Carol of the Bells and "Once Upon A Christmas" (I think that's the name) by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (I think that's who sings it)... and I don't even like country. :-P

Glass wax?? Where have I been? I missed out on that one.
My favorite christmas song is feliz navidad. Everyone thinks I'm crazy, but I could listen to that over and over again.
I don't get out that much either.

What the hell is window wax? Maybe I am to young for that one. I will have to check out Oliver the other reindeer.

@ Lipstick: I listened to the song a bunch of times in a row, and finally reached that conclusion.

@ Marilyn: I don't know if they even make that stuff any more. It was a pretty sneaky way for moms to get the kids to clean the windows

@ Etta: I love the Grinch with Boris Karloff narrating

@ Adullamite: LOL

@ Shyne: It was so simple, yet festive

@ Goddess: TY

@ Lauren: It's an anti-Christmas plot to make every hate Christmas music by only playing bad songs.

@ Susie: Yep, it was Aaron. Susie Snowflake--great song, but only in limited rotation.

@ Shadow: Glass Wax was the best for Christmas deorating.

@ Reforming: I like Trans Siberian, too. Glass Wax was a pain to use, so some only bought it for Christmas, if at all.

@ Kirtsen: You're too young. You may have just missed the Glass Wax Mania

@ Hussy: You're a whippersnapper, so you missed it. Definately watch Olive. It is pretty funny.

I believe the Little Drummer Boy's name was Jamahl. My brother played in the Columbus Symphony and one year they performed the music to "Jamahl and the Night Visitors". Am I correct? Do I win a prize?

Glass wax would be good now, not only as decoration but it looks good to eat as well like fruit roll ups but w/wax. I love jingle bells with all the playground ad-libs. I heard kids still singing it in its vintage form: its great that batman still smells and that robin is still laying eggs, that batmobile needs to go to goodyear for tires and that the joker, oh the joker is still getting way. nothing can match the vintage.

@ Judy: No, according to The Google, and the Christmas TV Music channel it was Aaron

@ Mike: Have a Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge. :)

@ Self: That is the best Jingle Bells version, as sung by Bart Simpson

They had to pull that Glass Wax stuff off of the market. Seems that it caused birth defects, tended to combust spontaneously, and was made by eyeless children in Sumatra.

But other than that, it was pretty cool.

When it comes to the holidays, you can't get any better than "A Christmas Story!"

Merry Christmas!

I can't believe everyone is leaving out the ultimate in Christmas song awesomeness! "I Farted On Santa's Lap, (Now Christmas Is Gonna Stink For Me)"

I think I'm going to ask Santa for some glass wax, after I fart on his lap, of course.

I see an animal theme here
Dominic the Donkey
Hippopotamus for Christmas
Run Rudolph Run

I haven't even heard of Dominic the Donkey or Hippopotamus for Christmas, I am clearly uneducated.

Da Old Man said...

@ Doug: I'm willing to take those chances to have really lame window decorations.

@ Paul: That is the family favorite but Olive is hysterical

@ Kalos: Never heard of it, but it sounds like a winner

@ Heather: It's not Christmas without them.

Do you remember "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth"?

Because that freakin' hippo song #7 is my sister's ring tone during the holidays.
