Technology roars into Casa Crotchety

After a couple years of having 2 computers and only being able to use 1 at a time, the Crotchety Old Lady and I decided to buy a router so we can both be online at the same time.

You can not imagine how liberating this is. Now, not only can we delete spam together, but the best part of all is the ability to remain in touch with each other electronically, instant messaging each other all day long.

Here is a diagram of our "media center"

Photobucket

The couch is about 15 feet away from the PC, and the TV is maybe 10 ft away, so you see how important it is for us to communicate via instant messages.

Technology rocks!

I always believe that communication and being able to do activities together is an essential part of any good relationship. Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration to us all :)

Wow. Great advice DOM! But you might want to consider moving the PC a little bit closer to the couch.

Heaven forbid the person at the PC has to twist their neck or worse yet their body to turn and look at the tv or the other person.

Just sayin'!

Ha!

Way to go old man. I love that you not only let her shovel snow, you also let her use the computer and even go out of your way to IM her when you are ready for lunch. You always were nothing but thoughtful.

You should see my sister, her husband and their daughter. I once walked into their house to find them all on their own laptops, less than 10 feet from each other. I pray they weren't using them to IM each other, but it did look like I walked into a class or something. I felt out of place without a laptop.

I believe this happens in quite a few households.

People become old fogeys at 26 nowadays.

Welcome to the 21st century. There is nothing more bonding than being able to delete spam together. Unless it is surfing YouTube and IMing each other links :). Enjoy your new technology.

WOW so now you and the old lady can officially be dating like the idiots out there of my generation. Welcome to non contact!

Ain't technology grand! Hubby and I each have our own. I refuse to IM someone in the same room as I am though. ;-)

That looks a lot like our house. I still communicate with my son via text message because he's on the other side of the house and he can't hear me when I am scraming at him

Great! No more trying to talk over the tv too. You two are now just a click away. This is really romantic.

@ Tahtimbo: Thanks.
:)

@ Quirky: We generally hate each other's programs, so it isn't a big problem.

@ Etta: Nothing quite like letting her know via IM that I need a grilled cheese or something.

@ Kathy: The family that laptops together, stays together, or something like that.

@ Sherry: I'm sure it does. I just found it so silly to IM someone 15 feet away from me.

@ Tarra: I've been an old fogey for a while, then.

@ Anne: True, I can send her links so we can watch them together, sort of.

@ Stacie:
:)

@ Reforming: If you don't IM each other, how will you know when to get him a glass of water or something?

@ Lauren: She doesn't allow me to date.

@ Dizz: Technology is so helpful.

@ Don: True, and she complains the TV is loud, so now it doesn't matter.

@ Dani: But it is fun.

I used to communicate with my ex in a way not too far from this method - it was called "walkie-talkies".

OMG, such a brilliant use of a thomas tokenring.

you old genius you !

I built my office and studio on a different floor from my crotchety old man so he rules the first floor.

he knows there is no such thing as im. he like a civilized gentleman uses the cellphone to call me to tell me someone is at the front door; instead of getting up and walking 25 feet away and answering it.

Men, you just can't live without em..

Awwww.
This actually sounds kinda sweet, in an absurd 21st century sort of way.

I can't even think of anything sarcastic to say which hasn't already been said. :)

Da Old Man said...

@ Lady Sarcasm: So true.

@ Me-Me: This way I can see her laugh if I IM something funny.

@ Sandi: It's the new picture of togetherness

@ Pricilla: That is a good system

@ RE: Women always complain. Now if he yelled to let you know someone was at the door, you'd probably be unhappy about that.

@ Janna: Yup, we are the ultimate couple of the 21st century.

Ahhh yes..21st century living.. but you do both need to always be "in the know"...I can understand wanting to see Crotchety Lady's response.. we do so crave instant gratification these days, don't we... Congrats on the tech boost to Casa Crotchety!!

I think there is more of that going on than you think. My Joe sits 10 feet behind me on his computer while I'm on mine, and the kids are busy texting us from their bedrooms. Well, at least we are all communicating. :) Hey, maybe you could do some "sexting" to your woman!

Our convent is wireless - or it would be if the router worked right. But there is a cable box on each floor with a ethernet jack, so we are all hooked together either way. I do not have to be in the same room or on the same floor to tell G-man to get his ass in gear and get his shit done...and with Meebo he cannot hide from me - I can contact him on any or all of his accounts...yay technology...

My husband and I have been doing this for years, no need for real conversation anymore.
