Drain Bamaged

Regular readers may have noticed that my posts have been rather skimpy. I'm pretty much tired as on dialysis days I get up at 4;30 IN THE MORNING, and then come back after 4 hours, to do 2 hours of physical therapy.

But the main problem is the brain damage from the mini stroke. I have a problem concentrating. I used to read hundreds of blogs a day and make lots of comments. Now I barely have the energy to read 20 or so, and I barely comment.

Remember Corky from Life Goes On? He laughs at me.

But everything I've read said my brain will come back. I hope it does, I've found it really comes in handy.

Nah, Corky laughs WITH you and you and he and I just laugh and laugh then try to remember what the hell we were even laughing about. Yeah. Shiz, I forget why I get off the sofa and why they hell I walked up stairs. Then I sit back down and laugh some more. We'll heal and we'll remember but in the meantime we'll just laugh. Pointing at people while laughing is fun, don't forget to do that because they get that "Why is he/she pointing at me and laughing?" look on their face so we have to laugh more....the cycle goes on and on.
Seriously, though, You: get up out of that bed and stop acting silly. You got shit to do,Mister. I mean that in a nice way. ;)

I hope your brain comes back... you're going to need that some day!

Hope you start doing better soon!!!

I don't blame you one bit.
If I had to wake up at 4:30, my posts would sound sort of like this:

"Frdle asubhhh. Mnrrww. Gotta pee."

So you are remarkably coherent, all things considered.
And we will stick with you no matter what. :)

Oh, and I forgot to add that I don't currently have a stalker so if you call I won't accuse you of being a stalker because I dont't have a stalker or a Crotchety Old Dude that calls me at all ever. Call me?
Probly that Ame in TN that just likes chatting with old grumpy dudes stuck in hospitals

Hey, 20 blogs a day is great! Sometimes I'm lucky to get in a few. Of course, I am Polish, Blonde, & Female, so I have an excuse...LOL! Keep up the therapy & you'll be up & around in no time!

DOM, welcome back dude. As to the brain thing, it'll come back. Humor is a great healer.

I have really missed you.

Adullamite said...

Lack of concentration and tiredness are to be expected. There again it gives the Mrs something to do, like run after you!
Reading folks blogs can wait, just make sure you scribble something - even unintelligible - on here.

We love you DOM, we'll take you any way (brain damaged or not) we can get you!

Unknown said...

Well, to be honest, I haven't noticed much change at all, and I have always considered you to be brain-damaged. Just sayin'.

Buzzing J said...

Half a brain of yours, or even a quarter, or one-eighth, or ..., is probably way better than a full brain of mine - that's not a disadvantage.

Get rest and get well soon!

I give you A+ for effort. It's hard keeping up with usual things when you hit a setback like brain damage! I agree with Collette and think 20 blogs is great! Hope you get all better real quick!

Uh oh, what's my excuse?? I'm only getting to like 50 blogs if I'm lucky these days. And really, it's summertime--if your brain can't take a vacation during the summer, then what good is it? Give the brain a rest, Joe, it will come back. Brains are amazing. And so are you. And if I remember correctly, Corky rocked.

Hey, I'm honored that I'm one of the 20, pally. Hang in there, bud.

Oh--don't be giving me crud about your Yankees killing my White Sox, we're sort of on a losing streak these days. I'm thinking they're having brain problems too. :( I'll be thinking of you while I watch the game tonight.

It will, you will - because you will it so.

Well from what I've been following you sound as though you are slowly, but surely, getting back to where you were before the doctor screwed you up.
What's with the anonymous commenter's phone/stalker/threat crap? Weird!

ReformingGeek said...

Yes. We are glad you are posting with all that you have going on right now. Just keep working that brain. That's what it needs!

Hey DOM, you don't have to apologize for anything... glad you're back and healing. Take care.

Well, I'd like to leave a comment, but I forgot what the post was about - something about brain damage - was liquor mentioned yet ? Other then that, you sound fine, just like the rest of us - sometimes on, sometimes off. And isn't it funny, that no matter how damaged the brain is - it remembers the "bad" stuff - does "couch" ring a bell ?

Rest when you can - work when you must - specials thanks DOM, and hang in there !

Yes, the brain comes in handy for some people. Then there are those who forget to use it on occasion.

Hope you continue to make progress, Crotchety!

nonamedufus said...

DOM, when you brain scan comes back and the doctors say they've found something, I'd take that as a good sign. It means you have one!

I look forward to each of your updates and I'm heartened by your progress.

(You read 20 blogs a day? That's me in a good week!)

Brains are a good thing to have.

Actually just one brain is good.

I'll say it for you since your drain isn't up to rap (was it ever?): True dat. :)

I know you was always pestering Mrs. C to take a picture of your leg and put it on the blog but she always forgot the camera. In honor of you're feeling better and I know that you will appreciate the picture I posted a picture of my brother's leg and the awful infection he had last fall. It's pretty graphic.

DOM, talk about brain stuff. Remember when I kept calling you Don? If you do then you are well on the way. Just think I have no excuse. Love you friend, hope you are home soon.

Joe after my aneurysm surgery I couldn't remember squat and that included members of my immediate family. I still have some major memory blanks and trouble pulling words out when I need them.

Someone suggested I do crossword puzzles to refire my brain. I had never done them before but figured it couldn't hurt. I started small. VERY small. We are talking kids crosswords but within a few months and with the help of a crossword dictionary I had worked my way up to the infamous NY Times crossword.

It was a lifesaving suggestion 'cause I thought I was really losing it. It brought most of my vocabulary back and my thought processes as well. Not that my thought processes are all that great. heh heh

Ah, don't worry so much about it. As my readers would be happy to tell you, 90% of what I've written was done with half a brain.

Hang in there Ol' Man!

Give your brain some time - it took all those years to get this way .

Sandee said...

You just focus on getting well Crotchety. You don't have to visit if you don't want to. No one is going to complain one bit. Just get well.

Have a terrific day. :)

You are still funny...so Corky is probably laughing at your humor, I'm sure that's it.

On my best day you still out-brain me. You're the best!

Ah, I'm sorry. It takes time to recover. My MIL is still working through her Leukemia (and the small stroke she had in the hospital).

I think the food situation in rehab is UNACCEPTABLE. Majorly unaccetable. Harshly worded letters should be sent to someone in charge.

Jenn Thorson said...

The fact you've continued at all is hugely impressive, Joe, and I applaud you for your bravery and stick-with-itness. If anyone had an excuse to take it easy on the Interwebz for a bit, it would be you. But it's probably good for your poor abused brain that you're sullying forward with it. Your noggin will be back to 100% Crotchety in no time. :)

Get over it old man.

MikeWJ at Too Many Mornings said...

I have problems concentrating, too, and I didn't have a stroke. Give it some time: 3-6 months for a decent recovery, about a year for the maximum effect. I'm just impressed that you continue to post. Staying active will help combat the effects of the stroke at the same time it boosts your mood.

Jan from BetterSpines said...

Just focus on getting better - that's whats taking all your energy right now. And who really uses all their brain anyway. Just check in once in a while!

Mrs Sweetwater said...

hey old man, you know how to get the comments. anytime you post anything you get a crop of comments, regardless.

I would suggest you get one of those lil handheld brain trainers. they look like the gameboy. the games are to help refocus brain activity and sharpen skills. that's what you need. otherwise, stay away from pizza.

good to see you're getting better.
obtw the early shift in dialysis means you usually get to tee off by noon. see there are advantages. LOL.

Ignorance is bliss, Crotchety. Look how happy Corky always was. Embrace your brainlessness, if you can remember.

Nice to see you blogging about anything. Maybe you can get some Blogger Imodium for anonymous.

Unknown said...

I wish you the best Crotchety - be grateful you are man because if you talk to Mrs Crotchety I'm sure she'll say you have not used your brain for years

Unknown said...

what you need is laughter. I'll get one of those sexy little nurses to tickle you!...or tickle ME!

Unknown said...

Hey old man, just hearing about your situation; hang in there, sounds like you're doing pretty good. only the dedicated (crazed?) blogger continues to post from his hospital bed. peace...

Don't worry about getting your brain back. You will, it will just take time. Don't put too much stress on yourself.

Brain is overrated. I try to use as little as possible because it hurts when I do. Like when I try to think of a better comment than this.

Hang in there, DOM!

I wish I could turn off my brain. If I could, I'd be married.

PS: If you're brain damaged I'm in a coma.
