Whatever Happened to Stubby Kaye?

It's not easy being me. Most of youse have already figured this out by now.
Anyway, today, before the Jets game, I wanted to watch something on TV. Trust me, Sunday morning TV is terrible. Just religion shows and political stuff. I couldn't even find a good infommercial. Then I began to think about Saturday morning TV, and realized that is even worse.

Saturday used to be my favorite TV day of the week when I was a kid.

And Saturday morning TV was great. Probably my favorite show was called Shenanigans. It was pretty popular, albeit rather short lived. It even inspired a cool home game

So today, I decided to see what was available on Nickelodeon. I used to love watching Double Dare and you Can't Do That on Television with my kid. It was just so the height of hilarious entertainment to see someone get slimed. I remember waiting with breathless anticipation for someone to say the words to get them slimed.

Today's shows are just mindless crap. No one gets slimed, or has to face humiliation to win crappy prizes.

It's become mindless. Mindless, feel good about yourself TV such as Spongebob or Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana is ok occasionally

but kids like to think once in a while. Kids of today need some good game shows so they can be more actively engaged. It's no wonder they can't seem to go more than 5 minutes without a DVD, an iPod, a cell phone, and a PSP. And sometimes all 4 at once.

We need a new Stubby Kaye

Dude, you're old...lol. :P

Actually I think every generation says this about the younger generation. Depends on what parents let them watch. My little nephews watch a few cool shows that I find a lot of fun.

I have to say that I HATE most of the cartoons that are on t.v. now. They're not funny and if they are it's because there's some form of sex innuendo that kids don't belong watching to begin with.

Whatever happened to Josie and the Pussy Cats and Wonder Twins and the one with Dastardly Dog?

Springfield, MO's version of Stubby Kaye in the 60s was Aunt Norma, and she is now a Republican State Senator. A super hard-core, Sarah Palin ain't got nothing on her, kind of a conservative Republican, at that!!!

Apparently one of the cartoon stations (I think it might be Teletoon, surprisingly - I would have expected Nickelodeon) is actually coming out with a "Retro" station (or already has... I don't exactly keep up to date on these, or most, things). I truly miss "You Can't Do That On Television"... I used to love Garfield, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The California Raisins, The Raccoons, and Looney Toons :-P
Only thing that ever sucked about "You can't do that on television" is that it would come on right before or right after "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego" (or whatever the heck that god-awful show was called)
(so, now that I've totally given away my age...)

@ Dani: So true. Most of them are so boring. I like watching Spingebob, because Ernest Borgnine is one of the voices, and considering how all he talks about on TV talk shows is hookers and sex, it cracks me up.

@ Lauren: I miss so many shows. Wasn;'t a big Josie and the Pussy Cats fan, but Scoobie Doo kicked the crap out of Spongebob any day.

@ Fishhawk: So, Stubby was almost like a franchise like Bozo or Romper Room? Cool.

@ Shadow: No worries. I already knew how old you are. Glad you liked "You can't do that on television." My kid and I used to love watching it, and just waiting for someone to say the magic phrase.

I used to be a TV addict. Then I became a rerun addict. Then I even went so far as to send away for the ANDY GRIFFITH plates with Barney and Opie and Aunt Bee on them.

Now, I'm getting worried about my internet addictions. Maybe I should just give up and become an alcoholic.

Ren & Stimpy was the last great cartoon (and 2 Stupid Dogs).

Not that it was really for kids...

Early morning TV? If you're up at that time, put on a DVD! I don't want to watch some halfwitted early morning shit either!

@ Dana: Good choice.

@ Eve: Poor Spongebob. Though one episode he did go out of the water and he and his friends got attacked by gulls.

@ Don: Sky King was awesome

@ Tiggy: 2 Stupid Dogs. Oh,that as some great TV. My kid and I used to love them.

@ Chris: DVDs suck. I keep putting them in the Betamax, and they don't play at all.

H.R. Pufenstuff, Sigmond and the Sea Monsters, Scooby Doo, Josie and the Pussy Cats, and I can't believe no one has mentioned all the Warner Brothers cartoons.

I agree that today cartoons suck.

@ Michiganderlady: That has been pointed out several times. Thanks

@ Humorsmith: Rocky and Bullwinkle is one of the greatest cartoons ever. As good as Bugs Bunny.

@ Muckbeast: Yes, indeed. I loved slime.
