The Joy of Limoncello

I went over to the sister's house for Christmas dinner and had some of our family's traditional favorites. We had home-made ricotta cheese, some really good proscuitto di parma, Genoa salami, brasiole, meatballs, imported provolone and cavatelli. The gravy was my great grandmother's recipe, passed down for how ever many generations that is. The Sicilian wine flowed freely, so Mrs. Crotchety was in a mellow mood.

And, this year, my sister experimented with something totally new: she decided to try her hand at making limoncello. For the uninitiated, it is an Italian after dinner drink that is, apparently, half lemon and half rocket fuel vodka. I've had it before, and it is a wonderful after dinner libation, useful in digestion.

I needed to digest a lot, apparently.

I did toast to your health, too.

You are quite welcome.

I'm drooling just reading this. That sounds SO good! Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Although with the limoncello, I guess it's guaranteed.

Mom and Dad brought me one of those little mini bottles of lemencello back from Italy. I never drank it as I loved the bottle and souvenier. Sounds yummy tho! Hope you enjoyed your treats.

I am not allowed to serve limoncello. Apparently my mother in law has "an allergy" to too much of it.

Somehow, I can picture you as the older wiseguy.

Now everything I've been reading makes sense!

Good to know where I can turn to if I need that cash advance!

Merry Christmas Crotchety!

Wow! I'm embarassed that I had to have help saying some of those food items.

I had some white wine but I don't think it would stand up against that limoncello.

I cooked homemade Mexican food, a family recipe from Hubby's family although nobody from his family has Hispanic heritage ;-)

Oh man! Brasiole. I haven't had that in so long. Maybe I'll make some for New Years.

Hello. Yum.

Italians and Irish people "understand" each other.

It's about food and family.

I totally love to take my lemoncello bottle out of the freezer to pour a "sample" every now and then. Although, I've wanted to, I've never tried making any. Hey, new year's resolution!
