Two for Tuesday

Today, on two fer Tuesday, rather than the regular humor blogs I usually highlight, I decided to mention some of the other ones I visit daily.
I've mentioned that I visit a lot of blogs every day. Usually in the 200-250 range. And I don't just drop entrecards. If I go to a blog, I read it. Fortunately, not all those bloggers update every day, so for many of them, I skim quickly and realize it was already read.
I like to learn stuff, and one of the best for that is the humor blog
Lidian posts ads from years ago, and points out the absurdities in them. That would probably be the best way to describe what she does so well. All I know is it provides a good chuckle every time. I particularly enjoy this blog because the ads give such an insight into life from days gone by. I wonder exactly how far back something has to have happened to be considered "days of yore?" Should probably check the Google. She also writes the Virtual Dime Museum blog, another with a historical bent, which is conveniently linked on her blog.

The second blog I wanted to highlight is one I absolutely look forward to reading. It is published twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays, and is loaded with two of my favorite things, shiny stuff and old stuff. Jenn, of Cabbages also writes this fun blog about thrift store finds and decorating on the cheap. http://thriftshopromantic.blogspot.com/ What I most enjoy, in addition to the shiny stuff, is she usually provides some history on her finds. I know she was surprised to find out a manly man like myself likes reading that stuff, but I assure you, it is darned interesting. Occasionally, there will be frilly bits, but enough history and shiny stuff to keep me interested.

On a side note, the Crotchety Old Lady became a collector of Victorian jewelry because I made a major mistake. That's why it is important for men to read this blog. A couple years ago, we went to a yard sale, and I saw a shiny thing. A nice pendant. I picked it up. It was a buck. Woohoo! I could probably make the Mrs. happy for only a dollar. Sweet.
That began the problem. I gave it to the Mrs., and she loved it. I thought I was golden. Until she researched and realized I made a pretty good find. It was a Victorian garnet, and worth a bit more than the buck I paid. I could sell it, and pocket a tidy profit, or she could take it and me to Atlantique City (one of the largest antique shows on the East Coast) and drag me through miles of jewelry vendors to find rings, bracelets, earrings, chains, and heaven knows what else to accessorize.

At least she bought me lunch.

Some NJ bloggers are cooperating on a serious subject. You can check it out here:

Just goes to show... no good deed goes unpunished.

Make sure Mrs. Crotchety knows that she needs to show some moderation or risk never receiving a gift again. ;)

@ LL: That ship has sailed long ago. Now, she buys stuff, and says, "Hey, look what you got me."

Ah, Lidian's site is hysterical. I'm glad to see she's getting the props she deserves.

And thanks for the thrift site promo, Joe! I was indeed surprised to find you rummaging among the virtual drawers of online thrift. But hey, we knew you were a Renaissance man.

And anyway, all are welcome. I try to go more funny than sappy with it, so I don't scare off all the guys. :)

Confirmed, the Mrs. DID find a good man, because he has great taste in the jewels!

Joe, thank you so much! And I see that I'm in great company - I love both of Jenn's blogs, she is the best!

And you are too. I always enjoy your posts, and I'm just going to have to speak up more, that's all.

Thanks for the site info - I would love to have the time to sift through 200 blogs but 2 toddlers kills my bloggy joy.

@ Jenn: Sometimes I get scared by the hanky posts, but even they are usually funny.

@ Chat: Pretty much.

@ Eve: It's usually interesting. I've found lots of nice real gold things, too

@ Lidian: Glad to let everyone know how much I enjoy your work

@ Don: Yeah, I don't have much of a life

@ Heather: I do it for my readers.

Today, a crotchety old man had so much time on his hands he backed out into the road and just stayed there.

He also gave me the finger when I honked him.

What i'm saying is: 250 blogs a day? Must be nice to be retired!

Da Old Man said...

@ Kirsten: I know :(

@ Mike: Not retired, just not working.

I'd like you to rephrase that last answer..

Due to your age, retired is just a description. After all, when you were working, you were tired. That comes with the territory.

Now that you're not working? You're tired again. Thus, the monniker Re-Tired applies.

Glad that I was able to clear this up for ya!

Oh, and next time you go for a yard sale, ship a couple of shiny finds my way! I'll be sure to reimburse you for the cost of the shipping!

@ Jormen: Ok. :)

@ Paul: The happiness lasted for a while. Then she found she could be much happier with hundreds of dollars worth of other Victorian jewels.

@ Dani: Doesn't everyone?

Your post actually showed up on my computer randomly... really weird! I read it, laughed my a$$ off, got coffee, went potty, just as you described, then I deleted it. I wish now that I had saved it, but I do know that the blue-jay's are conspiring to take the ramp from the squirrels so they can pass out the proper way - on their backs, wings out.
